Some highlights from NYCC

I’ve been reading CBR’s coverage of NYCC and here are some things I’ve highlighted regarding female characters from the MU:

  • Jubilee is getting a mini-series! Wolverine and Jubilee: Curse of the Mutants will deal with Jubes’ vampiric nature and it will be written by Kathryn Immonen, with art from Phil Noto. I quite enjoy Immonen’s writing, so I’m looking forward to her take on Jubes and her relationship with Logan.
  • In Avengers #7 we’ll see Dani Cage’s new nanny. Bendis revealed that Squirrel Girl will be taking care of Jess’ and Luke’s baby girl. So more Squirrel Girl for her fans :D
  • Then, on the subject of Jessica Jones, a fan that CBR described as “someone who appreciates an expanded role for female characters at Marvel” (thumbs up for that fan!) asked whether Jess would get more time in the spotlight soon. Bendis said she will start asking herself is she will be an Avenger, what kind of superhero she is and what kind she will be. “The character will be in a different place by the end of the second arc on the series.”
  • Also regarding the Avengers title: “New female members are in the works as well.” Finally!
  • Regarding X-23, Marjorie Liu revealed that she will be teaming up with Gambit as she struggles to find her place in the Marvel U.
  • On the not so good news side, Tom Brevoort said that the character of Echo (Maya Lopez) seems to be too tied to David Mack (who created her) “for other creators to come in and make her their own”. So who knows when will we see her featured prominently again ;_;.

That’s all for now. Check out CBR for the complete articles.
