Marvel developing female led TV properties

Today at SDCC Marvel announced that aka Jessica Jones is moving ahead in development at ABC and that it will include Carol Danvers and Luke Cage in the cast.

The big news was the development of Mockingbird that will place Bobbi Morse in college and follows her adventures as a student by day and secret agent by night.

KSite TV said Jeph Loeb described it as “Alias meets Felicity” and is targeted for ABC Family.

A series starring Cloak and Dagger is also in development for ABC Family.

The excelllent Saranga has written up a review of a book dedicated to telling the story of Echo, a deaf, Native American lady hero. I pretty much need this book in my life right now.

ghoulsoutforsummer said: Hello! I'm having a contest on my blog to give away 7 of the Thor movie promotional cups from 7-11. There are two Sif cups available! But I don't seem to be getting many entries... Would you mind posting the link to my contest post so some of your followers can enter if they want? I'd really appreciate it! A drawing is no fun if there aren't enough people entered. =-_-=

Ladyslash kink meme is now open!

An anon kink meme! For ladyslash! For comics! As you all know, ladyslash is probably the smallest shipping branch of comics fandom, so now is a great chance to request and write all the ladies in love you have ever wanted to. Please reblog or encourage your friends to join in - the more the merrier, and the more people involved the longer the meme will last!

The guidelines post is here, and the prompts post is here. As this is my first time doing anything like this I am pretty open to criticism, so feel free to let me know if you think I’ve neglected any rules or should make any changes.

Relevant to our interests!

I am reading the post on black characters in comics, and all I can think as I read the author’s praise of Hudlin’s elevation of black characters is that his treatment of Monica Rambeau via T’challa made and still makes me hop up and down in a shrieking rage whenever I think too much about it. He did nothing to “elevate” her. He took a character who grew from a newbie to a leader of the Avengers and an all around smart, compassionate, witty badass and put her in a position where she only existed to be bossed around by T’challa so that other men (and occasionally women) could comment on his command prowess. Maybe she got more visibility out of the deal, since her only recent appearance (to my memory) at the time had been in Nextwave, but she was sacrificed to a sexist attitude to get that, and I can’t fucking support that.

Reblogging for commentary on Monica Rambeau’s role in Black Panther.

The second part of David Brother’s guest post at Marvel.com for Black History Month. In this post, David talks rather briefly about Monica Rambeau.

For this year’s Black History Month, David Brothers (writer at both Comics Alliance and 4th Letter) is writing an article highlighting some of Marvel’s black characters, linking their first appearances to significant moments in history. In this first part, David talks a bit about Glory Grant, Misty Knight and Storm. The second part of this article will be up on Friday. David’s also been writing posts dedicated to this year’s Black History Month every day over at 4th Letter, so be sure to check those posts as well.

Femslash Week Recap

Here’s everything that was showcased during MLL’s Femslash Week in case you missed something! Thanks to everyone who took the time to produce their own fanworks especially for this week. Thanks to you we got to read, listen to and gaze at awesome stuff. Thanks a lot also to those who submitted or posted comic panels and fics recs. I hope everyone got to have fun during this celebration. MLL lost many followers during the week, but I’m happy to say those are the followers I don’t mind losing. So thank you very much, everyone, for making this possible. None of this would have happened without you!

Emerald City Comic Con

I’m writing on behalf of the ECGeekGirls. We’re planning a flash mob at this year’s Emerald City Comic Con & were hoping we could boost the signal here. We need a LOT of participants to make this look fantastic & we’re encouraging people to cosplay or wear geeky gear. We’re MASSIVE comic book fans. For example, one of us ECGeekGirls will be organizing things dressed as Jubilee. ;)

When: Saturday, March 5 @11:00 am
Where: Washington State Convention & Trade Center - 800 Convention Place, Seattle, WA
How: Dance instructions & updates at the ECGeekGirls YouTube channel or on Twitter.

It would be fantastic if we could get a mass of girls & women dancing at the Comic Con with publishers, writers & artists in the audience to witness our awesome. They could even dress up as their favourite character and/or a character they feel needs more screen time. Plus it would be so much cracky fun! Hopefully, you can help out with this project.

Thanks so much!
Katt (on behalf of Riley, Aethena, Rae, Percy, & Peach)
